A friend turned me onto this site today called Pandora. The premise behnid the site is this; basically this is a music player based on the database of the Music Genome Project. This project identifies certain musical attributes, or “genes”, and then analyzes songs to determine what “genes” these songs have.
Pandora is a really cool tool. The team created this tool because people are always looking for more music to listen to based on what their music tastes are. This site provides 10 hours of music for free, after that you can subscribe for $36/year. This music is commercial-free and you can create numerous “stations” for any band or song. A downside I have found is you can only fast-forward through the songs so many times per hour, BUT, you can fast-forward through your other stations once you’ve reached your limit on another.
Here are some examples of music that plays when you type in a band or song name:
Band: Disturbed
Related Music: Ill Nino, Yellowcard, Static-x, Twisted Sister, Anthrax, Kittie
Band: The Sundays
Related Music: Pedro the Lion, Marshall Crenshaw, Sixpence None the Richer, Gay Dad
Band: Dave Matthews Band
Related Music: Marshall Crenshaw, The Shore, The Prom Kings, Trashcan Sinatras
Band: Garbage
Related Music: Snake River Conspiracy, Marilyn Martin, Mahjongg, Animotion
Anyway.. check it out and let me know what you think!!
