Ask away

My friend Dean

has this great about me page that lets people ask him questions and he
answers them. I thought this was a brilliant idea. Most people
typically have the boring FAQ or About me page; I was about to do the
same when I came across Dean’s About page. I modified Dean’s version to
store the data in a database and provde a few other capabilities.

This
gives readers the opportunity to ask me what they want and I will
answer them! Will make for a much interesting “About Me” page. My page
is called: Ask Me and you can find it in my menu now.

Please stop by and ask me a question!

Neat idea. Definitely something different than the standard “About Me” page.

Now you just have to fend off the scary questions, like:

    If
you had a dog and a cat in your boat, waves crashing into the side
every 37 seconds and you only have a pocket knife, an oar and some rope
… at what time would you arrive at dock 3?

    Yeah, scary …

It’s pretty cool Sara. When can I get my hands on it? You should also display the last 10 or so and have the others archived..

  3. Sara says:

Kevin — Yes, questions like that will be tricky to answer.

    Conrad
    — If I ever figure out how to make it a plugin, you can be a tester! Or
if you want it sooner let me know and I’ll tell you what you need to do
    to use it :)

You are right about limiting the number of questions. Will do that after I get it working as a plugin.

If anyone else has any other suggestions, let me know please. Comments and criticisms are welcome!

    It
should be relatively easy todo, however are you going to be motivated
enough to carry it through:) Are we going to have to push you for it?

  5. Sara says:

    Andrew
    — The plan is to do it. I won’t have time during the week, but I will
next weekend. So, I will dig into it by then. If I don’t, feel free to
get on me about it :p.

  6. Andrew says:

Are you saying my “about me” page is typical & boring?

    :P

  7. Drew   says:

What happens if you don’t know the answer? Do you explode or something worse?

  8. Sara says:

Drew, I really hope I don’t explode. You’ll be left to pick up the pieces. Could be a nasty mess.

[...] Many many many months ago I decided I didn’t want the typical “About me” page. Sure that way I could dictate what people knew about me and frame their perception of me, but what fun is that . I came across a script by a very nice guy, Dean who offered to give me his script! This was awesome. Dean’s script had the functionality I needed, but I wanted more functionality and wanted to put a database behind it rather than rely on files. I spent about 20 hours and wound up with a pretty neat script and launched it about 16 months ago. [...]

What about “code” do you love soo much that influenced you to name your cite after it?
