Advertising on Blogs

I read a lot of blogs during the week and notice that some have ads and some don’t. Ads don’t turn me off unless they are poorly placed and are gawdy. If they fit in well with the site and are relevant, I have no problem with it. I’m thinking about throwing some adsense up on here. I’d really be interested in using BlogAds, but right now it is invitation only which doesn’t help at all. If anyone uses blogads and has an invite, hook a girl up :).

I’m surious to see what people’s thoughts are on blogs that have advertisements. I figure I might as well help pay for the server!

Hmm, I was wondering the same thing. Adsense does seem to be the way to go but was afraid it would put off the three people that visit my site.

I’m not averse to people putting ads on their site, as long as it doesn’t interfere with the content.

My concern too Weon! I was thinking that maybe I would start out by putting it in the invidiual posts rather than the home page so it wouldn’t scare people away at first glance! I may put it on my Ask Me page as well.

I just recently started my blog and thought about the same thing - not for right away, but a little ways down the road.

I am also concerned with frightening visitors and making them think I am only writing content daily to make money. That is certainly not the case.

If you look at a lot of the big-time bloggers (Zeldman, Kottke, etc), you’ll see they don’t have ads on their sites. For the time being, I am going to follow their lead, and see how long I can go without placing ads on my blog.

I jumped on the Adsense bandwagon a while back and have actually made enough money per month to A) pay for hosting and B) snag a bag or 2 of groceries. I’m not put off by Adsense ads so long as they are tastefully done, i.e. blend in w/ the rest of the site.

Most bloggers will agree that the best place to put ads (besides in your header somewhere) is in your comment page between the end of the post and where the comments start (I have this on my site)…namely b/c most of our traffic is search engine related, so most visitors only see single posts, and since the ad is basically in the middle of the page you’ll get more clickthroughs.

It’s free, so at least you have nothing to lose! I say give it a shot.

Nothing wrong with ads. Most of the time your regular readers won’t click on them, but search engine traffic will. At least that’s what I’ve heard. From that I would think you’d be best suited putting them on individual post pages like Jayson said.

Well, I’ve done it. I’ve put it on my comment page. Hopefully, it will work out!

    Thanks for everyone’s input.

I noticed you had ads. Good on you - make some money off your hard work!! They don’t bother me at all…

Ads are good…adsense pay per click..why not consider
    Text Links ads

[...] Back in May, I decided I would throw up some adsense ads and just see what happened. Now, i haven’t made very much from this particular site, but i think by May of next year, it will have earned enough to at least pay for a year of hosting. That’s really not too bad considering I haven’t tried to advertise the blog more and I have been blogging less lately than I used to. [...]
