I got a new laptop

What happened to my old one? I jumped on it. Yes, I’m serious. No, it wasn’t intentional. Things like this only happen to me. A tree fell down in my yard today and broke a sewer line after my heat went out and its freezing. Things like this only happen to me.

Anyway, back to my beauty. I ordered it the day after I used mine for a trampoline. I had it shipped to my friend first who so generously configured everything for me (loaded some software–legal copies even– and removed all the crap that comes on it) and then shipped it my way. I got it two days ago and this thing rocks. Here are the specs:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667MHz FSB)
15.4 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with TrueLife™
2GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHZ, 2 DIMM
256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory
80GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive

The biggest factor for me was the screen and video card. My old laptop had a resolution of 1900×1280 which I just LOVED. The real estate was amazing. I wanted something similar so I had to really look for that.

I’m very happy with it and im sure it will last me a few years!

Sounds really nice. I did almost the same thing a few years ago.. leaving a laptop on the floor leaning against a bed is a bad bad idea. The screen shattered all over rendering it unviewable.

I’m now two laptops past that one, but I found a use for it.. I completely removed the screen, hooked it up to a spare 15″ LCD and $15 speakers, and stuck it on a bureau in my bedroom. With my Slingbox in another room, a wireless network, and an ATI Remote Wonder USB remote control, it’s become a TV for the bedroom that can also stream movies or audio from my other computers.

Oh, that is so cool. I wish I can replace both of my computers with new ones. They are old and slow. :(

But I’m happy for you :)

I’m old school, I still use a desktop computer :)
Actually, it’s because I used to play games a lot. Before I had a kid………….. so sad….

Thanks everyone. It’s working out well for me so far. I understand the whole before I had a kid think mark. believe me I do.

And Hashim, I will be extra careful!

How exactly did you jump on it, as opposed to step on it? I once tripped over my laptop power cable and sent the laptop crashing to the floor, hard disk burned up after a few days. The thing that hurt most was the data loss.

I now have a few laptops lying around, left overs from a failed business deal. I now use two laptops and a desktop. One of the laptops has a dodgy battery so that’s hooked up to an LCD, external mouse and KB and sits on my work desk, it also serves as a coaster for my mug.

Hi Sara,

I just wanted to say you aren’t alone…lol. That tree thing happened to me too (January of last year)! Mine fell on the power lines and ripped the whole electrical box - ground wires and all - right off my house. It was beyond cold and took over a week to fix.

I’m checking out the laptop you recommended. I’m in the market and starting to look seriously. I’ve already migrated my desktop from a mac to a pc (gasp) so now I’m ready for the next step…
