The Things You Do for a Blog Post

Archived in the category: Uncategorized

Once you start blogging and you regularly blog, you start thinking about things a little bit differently. You look at it from a bloggers angle and you start planning out your post well before you’re even near your computer. Sad, but true.

I was speaking to someone on Friday and he was telling me about this site he was launching and he said…well, if it fails, it will be a blog post. That’s the attitude!

Last week I joined a new stats program and a close friend asked me why I did that? Why pay $5/month when between awstats and analytics, we are pretty much covered as far as stats go. He didn’t care, he was just curious. I didn’t really have a compelling reason to give. I like trying out new things and I like being aware of whats out there so I can make an informed decision on what is best for me. So I responded, “I just wanted to try it. It’s a blog post either way.”

Always looking for that silver lining and it seems now-a-days we can turn anything into a blog post. Heck, I just did!

So have YOU become that person who when hearing something on the news or having a discussion with a peer or friend, is always aware of the blogging angle? I don’t mean that you actively are seeking out a blog post, but the idea just pops into your head. Sadly, I am that person.

Or are you that person that DOES things for a blog post. I have thought about that too. Just trying something out to document my experiences.

Count me in the same category as you.!

I keep looking out for
i) how to post something
ii) what to do, so that i can post it.

Ha ha! I am totally with you on this. Not so much recently but certainly when I started the blog I would always be thinking “Ah, I’m going to write about this on Weon.co.uk”

Now my life is dull and consists mainly of work and sleep and there’s only so many times you can write about that!

Good post Sara, I could of used that as a excuse when I was single trying to pick up women. If she says no - I just say oh well, it’s a blog post!

I don’t do that. But I do sit in front of my blog and think about my day and what happened(or didn’t happen) that could be interesting enough to write about.
Maybe mine is just a case of the chicken and the egg?
But I can definitely say I haven’t done something just so I could blog about it.
Thats more like performance art.

My blogs are niche news blogs, so what you have described is exactly how I operate. I’ve even been known to get out of bed to blog a hot story if I see some relevant breaking news go across the crawl of a TV news program I’m watching — and on at least two occasions in recent memory I’ve then stayed up all night in case there were new developments that required an urgent update to the blog.

Drives the rest of my household nuts, of course. ;-}

Definitely! I’ve noticed a lot of people discussing this lately, and I have to tell you it makes me feel better to know I’m not alone. I honestly have had some of those really strange dreams and as soon as I wake up and realize I’m awake, have thought…how could I work that into a blog post?
