Please someone stop me!

Archived in the category: Uncategorized
Posted by: Sara -

I bought another domain yesterday. I had another brilliant idea for a site and couldn’t resist the urge to buy the domain. I just have too many ideas and not enough time. I’m afraid if I don’t implement the idea right away though, someone will come behind me have the same idea themselves.

Do I really have enough time to work on this right now? No. I have a million other things going on right now but this site should be relatively quick to set up (under 15 hours) and pretty easy to maintain (5 hours a week in the beginning). So I think I’m going to do it. I don’t want to give out the details yet but watch this space. It may be completely stupid but to me it sounds like a fun idea.

I know there have to be more people like with who experience the too many ideas, not enough time. Are you like me?

You have WAY too much energy for one human being!
But I’m still anxious to see what the new idea is…

Oh, I’m with ya. I already have an idea for another blog I want to do. Keep us updated!

Unfortunately, I have the same problem. I get a brilliant idea, and instead of trying it out on a subdomain or something, I buy a domain on a whim and then I usually don’t get around to it. Ick!

Ohh yes, I’m exactly like that. I’ve got an excel document of probably 300 domains that I’ve got ideas for, but no time. I own around 12 domains now, down from about 22. I let a lot expire because I had no time.

I’ve got a couple sites that I really think could be big because they’ll essentially be one of kinds, but I have trouble finding the time since I’m trying to get Random Jabber off the ground and plus I’m not a programmer, so one of my sites is on the back burner until a good ready made solution is available because developing something myself is out of the question.

I think everyone that develops sites is the same way.

I used to have this syndrome but realised that my imagination moved FAR quicker than my ability so had the part of my brain that comes up with ideas surgically removed.

Life is easier now.

Oh yes, I have way too many domain names. Lots of ideas, tons of half-designed sites sitting in scattered .psd files, piles of half-written code and oodles (yes, oodles) of coming soon pages. Extreme shortage of time. Looking forward to see what you’ve come up with, though!

You KNOW that I’m like that. In fact I can think of at least one project (maybe more?) that you and I have laying around that never saw the light of day. hahaha..
So many ideas, so little time woman.

Let me know if you need anything. i’ll be there for you to help build up your idea and then never speak of it again.

this was a marketing post if there ever were one to lure visitors, as if anyone cares about you buying a domain ?

Well mushu…you’re here reading this. If you don’t like it, move on. Glad to see I still have a few “friends”.

@mushu: You are mistaken. I enjoyed this post. I found it interesting, and I relate to it because I too buy domains compulsively. Ergo, I care. QED.

I do something similar, it’s nothing spectacular, like what you’re going to be doing, but i try to get the ’screen name’ on yahoo/aim/gmail and the domain before someone else thinks of it, hence the reason i have 10 domains and only 1 active. i can’t wait to see what you’re doing!

Sara, I wouldn’t stop you. Buying a domain means another website. Lots of people can benefit from your good content. Keep up with your ideas.

@Colin - you tell em!

@Dita - Oh Dita, trust me, what I’ll be doing is nothing spectacular. But hopefully it will be fun!

@Dana - Wow Dana, you’re as bad as me! But at least you have 5 developed so far!

Update: I still haven’t done anything yet. I know… I suck.

How many domains do you own now? I say that as long as it doesn’t interfere with business - go for it! You never know what may happen. If anything you could develop it - then flip it for some $ if it takes too much time to maintain.

@Paul - wow, i don’t like that I just looked. I have 82 domains and they are all private which means I pay more than $1k a year (closer to $1500) to manage them . I do let some expire if I haven’t used them yet. but augh…..

RM - Thanks for stopping by!

Disha - it seems there are alot of us out here. We should start our own support group!
