I was on facebook today looking around at friend’s profiles and I saw this ad posted by someone who is looking for a job. I have seen ads by companies hiring people but I have never seen an ad by someone looking for a job. Talk about thinking outside of the box!

I wonder how effective this is. When you post a Facebook Ad you get to choose your target audience which is really nice as it helps you narrow down the type of person you want your ad to see. The first filter is by location. If you live in Australia and don’t want to relocate, you can ensure that the only people who see your ad live in Australia. You can also filter by age. You may want to target managers age 30 or above, but the chance of that manager seeing your ad is slim. You would have a better chance of a potential peer seeing your ad and then telling their manager about you. The third and probably best option is to filter by keywords. You can add keywords for the type of position you are looking for and also potential fields you may want to work in such as defense. As much as I wanted to click on the dude’s link I didn’t because I know he would have to pay for that click.

I haven’t done anything nearly as creative as this when looking for a job. What kinds of things have you done or heard of being done that was somewhat out of the ordinary?
