Low Standards

Archived in the category: Uncategorized

I have low standards when it comes to myself and my sites I think. I don’t put as much time, planning, documentation, etc., into them as the sites I create for my clients. This is probably pretty bad when I would love to be able to be in a position to pick and choose my clients more because hopefully I’ll have a good monthly income coming in from my sites. Here are a couple of examples of this.

Instead of building admin panels for my sites, it just don’t worry about it because I know I can manage the content directly in the database. But this does slow things down a little bit and over time and could amount to the time it would have taken to just write an admin panel.

I think I’ve written any kind of design document for ONE of my sites…oh and this site isn’t finished yet. I wanted to have it done by November 2005.

It’s hard to battle these low standards, or laziness when you want to get something up fast and you’re short on time. Logically I know what I should do and if a friend came to me and told me this story, i would have plenty of advice to offer them. I just wish I could take my own advice. /rant

Please someone stop me!

I bought another domain yesterday. I had another brilliant idea for a site and couldn’t resist the urge to buy the domain. I just have too many ideas and not enough time. I’m afraid if I don’t implement the idea right away though, someone will come behind me have the same idea themselves.

Do I really have enough time to work on this right now? No. I have a million other things going on right now but this site should be relatively quick to set up (under 15 hours) and pretty easy to maintain (5 hours a week in the beginning). So I think I’m going to do it. I don’t want to give out the details yet but watch this space. It may be completely stupid but to me it sounds like a fun idea.

I know there have to be more people like with who experience the too many ideas, not enough time. Are you like me?

Harry Potter - Damn right I saw it

Harry Potter is not a guilty pleasure of mine. I am VERY open about my enjoyment of the books and the movies. I am the person that will buy the book and sit down and read it straight through. This week I have to get a lot of work done so I can do that this weekend. I’ll be at the store at 8am to buy the new release this coming Saturday.

I regularly read the books to my kids so they are really into Harry Potter too. It’s just a great story and a great place to let your imagination go. Who hasn’t wanted to be a witch or wizard????

I had made plans to take my oldest son to the movie on Wednesday during the day so hopefully it wouldn’t be packed. I ended up going Saturday however. It required planning because most of the theaters were showing it in French or dutch so I needed to find one that showed it in English. It was well worth the hour drive. It was a great movie and really left me wanting more. I can’t wait until Saturday to buy the book :|.
